"There Is No Such Thing As Ghosts"
A site specific installation by Can “Khan” Oral including photography, found audio material (fieldrecordings), and live performance.
“There Is No Such Thing As Ghosts" is a phrase I unconsciously grabbed from a television program. It stuck to my mind and I realized that there are ghosts everywhere. Mainly in our heads, when we look at things and do not penetrate the surface. If we go behind the obvious we dig into methaphysics, the soul if you like, or the ghosts, that are all around us. Some are good and some are evil.
Konstantīns Raudive and German parapsychologist Hans Bender investigated electronic voice phenomena (EVP) in the late 60s and published a book on EVP, Breakthrough in 1971. They recorded empty rooms at night and amplified the material the next day. They realized that on tape where unknown voices to be heard, they described as ghosts communicating from “the other side”.
Can “Khan” Oral applied the same EVP technique to his photography to amplify what is “behind” that we see in every day life. The methaphysical content of the visual experience. The subtext, not the name we stick onto an object.
“There is no such thing as ghosts” is ment to haunt you and at the same time to liberate us from our daily perception. In the end they are not such bad ghaots !
